Greetings from New York City!I was inspired tonight. I saw an incredible show – it was creative, funny, innovative, intellectually engaging, and imaginative. It moved me to other worlds, and filled me with energy, and a deep longing.I’ve always enjoyed performing, but only in the last two years have I come to fully appreciate the deeper role theater can play in our lives – for I’ve learned that theater is not only a vehicle for creative expression and release, it can also be a powerful connector and outlet, an opportunity to build community, connections, and a sense of belonging. And that is what is so exciting for me about producing Hairspray – Jerusalem. Our production is different from other shows you’ve seen in Jerusalem, because we aren’t only about quality English-speaking theater; we’ll offer that, and more. Hairspray offers the opportunity to explore social issues and universal themes that are as relevant today as they were in the era the story was set, and which continue to speak to audiences in a powerful, yet humorous and touching way. Staging this show in Jerusalem enables us to bring together new talent and new audiences, creating personal connections and expanding the English-speaking theater community to reach a broader audience, while creating meaningful, substantive encounters, communication and cooperation among new and veteran immigrant groups in the city.We have an amazing creative team on board, and through our production blog, open community events, and more, we’re looking forward to sharing a theatrical experience with you that promises, like Jerusalem, to be timeless. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org to find out how you can be involved!
